A Blog About Love...Overcoming ALL Obstacles!

Yes, yes.  The title of this is inspired by Moulin Rouge.  Love that movie.  And I've recently hooked my roommate on the soundtrack.  :)  But really, love can overcome many things.  Like silly boys.

Its been a while since I've done an 'Engaged Girl Funnies' post.  I think it is time for another!  These are my musings about things I learn in life regarding my relationship with Tyler.

Don't wear your heels until its time to leave.  If a man hears the sound of heels, he automatically thinks that sound is a signal that the finishing touches have been applied and that you are ready to walk out the door.  So if you're walking around but you're hair isn't finished, the sound of heels clicking the floor will send him the wrong message, at which point you have started the recording that comes without a remote:  "Are you ready to leave now?"

When trying to pick wedding songs, expect him to give you input about what he thinks is funny rather than good dance music.  His choices are Flight of the Concords and Weird Al.  We'll see about those. Maybe White and Nerdy?

For men, wedding planning together always comes with a time limit significantly shorter than women's.
Men will always think that girls make weird noises.  Tyler today commented about how he thinks that girls and guys are a lot different.  Really?  He says that girl sounds are weird.  I suppose this might be that my roommate, my future sister-in-law, and self all make cat sounds.  Or that all our noises are high pitched and silly.
I think I'm just too white and nerdy.

Engaged Girl Funnies: Zombie Attack

Recently, I'm starting to realize Tyler and I don't have as much in common as I'd thought.

When we started dating, my apartment didn't have cable.  I don't really care for TV, and it wasn't free with my rent back then, so there was no need.  That entire year, when the topic of TV would come up, we both agreed that it was better to not pay for all that junk to fill your mind anyway.  When we watched movies, they would generally be cute movies (like How to Train Your Dragon or Tangled, or we'd go to see some spy or adventure movie).  Those movies aren't bad and to my knowledge, we both enjoyed them.

But now, my apartment has cable.  This means that we get all the basic channels.  I generally don't turn it on, but if I do, I'll probably let the channel land on the news, an old movie or HGTV.

What I've learned this semester, despite all our talks in the past about television, is that Tyler usually stops on the SciFi Channel.  (Oh dear, please help me.)  Isn't this the same junk filling the minds of young people that we'd talked about not wanting to have in our home one day?

Really?  Zombies.  That's what we watched tonight.  Zombies.  That's what we watch most nights now.   Zombies.

The moral of today's story is, even if your guy doesn't really like the idea of these shows, if given the opportunity, he may fall into the zombie mania trap.

It is contagious.  Kind of like zombies.

Take it from the girl who now (unwillingly) watches zombie movies in her spare time, don't let your guy follow the zombie frenzy mania fad.  If you do, you will be watching zombie movies every night after dinner.

You don't want to watch zombie movies after dinner.

No, really.  You don't.

Take that advice from me. ;)

P.S.
(If you do, however, want to watch something funny about zombies, I'll recommend this video.)

Engaged Girl Funnies | Football and Fun

Its getting to be that time of the year when school stinks, and...well, school stinks.  Luckily, this weekend we got to go to our first (and probably last) football game of the season.  OU played Baylor, and the game was pretty exciting, more so toward the end.  It was quite unexpected that we got to go, so that was a lot of fun!  It was also great to see the future in-laws since we went tailgating and to the game together.
This weekend was Veterans day, so the OU Pride and throughout the majority of the football game had tributes to all American servicemen.  So thankful for our veterans.

Some funnies from life lately are...

  • Tyler and I both love breakfast for dinner...and if I want to enlist him to help me cook, all I need to do is tell him we're having breakfast for dinner.  Of course, a quarter of the bacon will probably disappear before the dinner table. ;)
  • Since we'll have been engaged for 6 months on Wednesday (wow), I've noticed that some months are really productive wedding-wise, and others are simply not.  I haven't pulled my wedding crafts out in nearly a month.
  • Months and weeks and days go by really fast, and they keep getting faster.
  • Sometimes I am surprised, and glad, at my man's abilities to scope out free food.  (He really is talented.)  He is always up-to-date about free things on campus, as well as off campus.  This always makes for fun adventures, and nice to not have to cook sometimes.
  • I made a new title banner for Engaged Girl Funnies, so funny thing how this blog is driving me to learn more useful skills on editing programs like GIMP that I otherwise would forget trying to do.  I love transparency, no more matching colors that won't really match!  Now to just get a little better so I can finish up those invitations.
  • No matter how hard I try to get him to shave it early, No Shave November is a very serious thing around here.

No Shave November is a serious thing.
More musings next Monday (unless I forget again...it seems I've been more and more forgetful lately.)

Happy Monday, dear Coffee Readers!

Laptop turned Desktop and Concert

Hello out there, Coffee Readers!

Okay, so I got a little busy this week so I didn't post much.
That's alright, you didn't miss much of my life anyway.  I got sick, - allergies, or something.  All I know is I can't stop sneezing.

A few weeks ago, my laptop screen broken during an unfortunately disastrous tickle fight.  It took a little time to gather supplies and get it all together, but may I now present to you....

My Lasktop.
My broken laptop now set up as a desktop.
I have finally "fixed" my broken laptop into a desktop by using an HDMI cable to plug it into a really small flat screen TV screen my aunt gave me my freshman year of college.  Then, because I couldn't see the good screen over the broken screen, I bought an external keyboard and hid the laptop below my desk.  Not bad for a lask-top (lap-desk-top).

You can even get the sound to go through the monitor (you know how movies on laptops are NEVER loud enough) by right clicking on volume, hitting playback devices, selecting HDMI, selecting "Set as Default" and then "Okay."

In other news, my corrected Save the Dates came in this week, finally!  They actually say 2013 instead of 2012!  Now ready to start sending them out...our wedding is just a little over 6 months away!  Its crazy to think we have already been engaged almost half a year!  It has gone by so fast, but...to be done with college and married soon, I'm not complaining.

My package of Save the Dates!

Okay.  For starters, let me just explain.  I love Christmas music.  Christmas music season begins in October, and is full fledged after Thanksgiving.  I hate that some of my favorite songs are only "allowed" to be played for one month out of the year...so, I play them more.  Christmas songs are often fun, cozy and with good meaning.  Some have been around for hundreds of years, others are new and trendy.

One of my absolute favorite Christmas albums is Very Merry Christmas by Dave Barnes.  I was so surprised to see a flyer on facebook announcing that he was playing a holiday concert at OU, and that tickets were only $10 per person for students!  Of course, I had to go!  But...the story gets even sweeter.

Me with Tyler around Christmastime in 2010.

Two years ago on November 20th, I became Tyler's girlfriend while we decorated his apartment with Christmas lights, tinsel, and afterward watched A Charlie Brown Christmas together, which was always a Christmas tradition in my family (clip below).

When I read about the concert, I told Tyler that this concert could be our anniversary date since it is only 10 days afterward. This is going to be our romantic date night event, but I'm sure we'll still put up decorations at my apartment/his house in honor of our little tradition, and I think the concert goes along so well with that.

Our concert wrist band tickets!  Can't wait!
I'll be sure to give an update on the concert, since I'm looking forward to it so much.

That's all for now, Coffee Readers!
Have a good weekend, and BOOMER SOONER!

Snap, Crackle Pop...Computer.

This week has been yet another week of life...and learning to live with life.

The most memorable event so far has been a bit of a tragedy.  Through a small accident which knocked a tv stand right into my computer screen, I now have only about 1/3 of a visible computer screen.  While it has been frustrating to have to accept the fact that it is not really worth it to fix my laptop (at least $90 for screen repair, probably more), it has been a good learning experience that although this was a big expense down the drain, it is not worth being frustrated at those around me.  I plan to plug it in to a small tv screen and just use my laptop as a makeshift desktop from now on...but losing my mobility will probably be frustrating until I get used to it.  Its funny how all these things wait to happen until *almost* the end of college, and right in the middle of wedding planning when I'm trying to not spend so much money.  We might be looking at Black Friday computer deals, but not sure yet if I want to fork out $300 on a new laptop.

One of the fun things about being a girl...and about being a soon-to-be-married girl, at church is the privileged of getting to hold some precious babies.  Since I was an only child, I didn't have a lot of opportunities growing up to be around a lot of babies, so I'm always afraid I'll make them cry, but I got to hold a sweet girl today who made me look forward to a) my friends having kids first so that Tyler and I can baby sit them on Friday nights every once in a while and b) to have some of my own little ones one day...a long many days away...many. haha  (And since my mom will read this, you still have plenty of time to figure out your grandma name, trust me.)

One of the most exciting things to me recently about being engaged to Tyler is figuring out what to get him for Christmas.  Its so fun to imagine all the little things I can put in his stocking.  I took him shopping today to make him point out things he likes and doesn't like so that I can get started.  :)

We haven't taken many pictures together this Fall, so today before studying I made Tyler take some pictures on campus together.  Whether they act like it or not, boys really do enjoy sweet walks together on campus together.  This is one of our pictures!  I miss taking lots of pictures with this guy, so my goal is to do that more!

Happy Monday!

Apathy, A Missing '3' and Falling Trees

This week, our lives took a few unfortunate turns.  They are not necessarily funny, as both are somewhat expensive, but are definitely not the end of our lives.

  • For one, I realized I wrote 2012 instead of 2013 on my Save the Dates (of which I already printed about 150).  I feel so smart!
  • Secondly, Tyler and I went to my parents' for the weekend, but while we were gone the tree outside my apartment decided to lose a limb and let it fall and make a huge dent in the hood of Tyler's car.  Tyler is a boy...and as a boy, he really loves his car...it makes me sad for him that his hood is now all dented and paint-less.  Stupid tree.
The culprit.

On a lighter note, here's some funnier funnies:
  • Wedding planning in college makes homework nearly impossible to do.  Why can't I just be a wedding planner and have fun for the rest of my life?
  • When you are already in the habit of being home directly after class to prepare dinner and do some cleaning before the guy comes over to eat, libraries that close by 9 pm are really annoying.  Why can't they all just stay open until 2...or all night, or just have one library that is 24/7 for that matter??
  • We are never too old to watch The Prince of Egypt...and study.
  • Is it bad that all my Christmas gift ideas are purely practical ideas?  Is this part of adulthood, or just plain boring?

Anyway, that'll be all the musings for this week!

With love, and sipping some coffee from my new chalk-friendly mug from my awesome friend Vonda!

So much fun for pictures!

Maybe a new way to keep tabs in my Chinese skills?

Engaged Girl Funnies

Since being engaged, I feel like I've learned a lot of funny things about Tyler, myself, and life.  Most of these are pretty funny, or at least I think so.  I'm also learning a few things, whether it be that just hiding the presents isn't enough, or how to better spend time with him even when my impulse is to get up and do things.

So lets hear it:

  • If you buy your man's Christmas present earlier than you put up the tree, don't expect that if you hide it in a drawer that you don't think he will look in is a good idea.  I hid one of Tyler's Christmas presents, and I came in one day and found Tyler looking in that drawer for nothing else but...toenail clippers (which were not in that drawer).  Make sure you wrap any and all presents immediately, as men are curious creatures.
  • If you send him to the store for you, expect lots of phone calls asking what you meant by that (very detailed) list you gave him.  I have also learned to be thankful for his thoroughness to not bring home the wrong items.
  • If you pour one cup of coffee, why didn't you just pour two to start with?  He is my Coffee Darling, after all.
  • Don't do housework in the middle of that boring movie he wants you to watch with him.  If you give the movie time, it might eventually get interesting.
  • Don't expect him to love every second of wedding planning as you may.  He does not want to go shopping, and he definitely does not want to hot glue things.
  • His opinion about your wedding decorations will always be, "sure."  But it still never hurts to make sure he likes it. :)
  • Yes, he does want to be praised for winning thirty-something games of checkers in a row. I just can't believe I'm marrying a checkers champion...so dreamy! ;)
  • I realized today through Tyler and I working Children's Church together that Tyler will be the awesome fun parent, and I will be the boring parent.  What I mean by that is that I am basically a rule-nazi (always have been), and Tyler is great at keeping a balance of rules while allowing kids to learn in their natural habitats (chaos).  I always hoped I'd be the fun one, but I think when that day comes it will be worth it to see the benefits of teaching kids to follow rules, and learning to have fun at the same time!
