Engaged Girl Funnies

Since being engaged, I feel like I've learned a lot of funny things about Tyler, myself, and life.  Most of these are pretty funny, or at least I think so.  I'm also learning a few things, whether it be that just hiding the presents isn't enough, or how to better spend time with him even when my impulse is to get up and do things.

So lets hear it:

  • If you buy your man's Christmas present earlier than you put up the tree, don't expect that if you hide it in a drawer that you don't think he will look in is a good idea.  I hid one of Tyler's Christmas presents, and I came in one day and found Tyler looking in that drawer for nothing else but...toenail clippers (which were not in that drawer).  Make sure you wrap any and all presents immediately, as men are curious creatures.
  • If you send him to the store for you, expect lots of phone calls asking what you meant by that (very detailed) list you gave him.  I have also learned to be thankful for his thoroughness to not bring home the wrong items.
  • If you pour one cup of coffee, why didn't you just pour two to start with?  He is my Coffee Darling, after all.
  • Don't do housework in the middle of that boring movie he wants you to watch with him.  If you give the movie time, it might eventually get interesting.
  • Don't expect him to love every second of wedding planning as you may.  He does not want to go shopping, and he definitely does not want to hot glue things.
  • His opinion about your wedding decorations will always be, "sure."  But it still never hurts to make sure he likes it. :)
  • Yes, he does want to be praised for winning thirty-something games of checkers in a row. I just can't believe I'm marrying a checkers champion...so dreamy! ;)
  • I realized today through Tyler and I working Children's Church together that Tyler will be the awesome fun parent, and I will be the boring parent.  What I mean by that is that I am basically a rule-nazi (always have been), and Tyler is great at keeping a balance of rules while allowing kids to learn in their natural habitats (chaos).  I always hoped I'd be the fun one, but I think when that day comes it will be worth it to see the benefits of teaching kids to follow rules, and learning to have fun at the same time!

  1. Saxon,

  2. How fun! I love the list thingy, it sounds just like my man :) Although at some point, he may take the initiative and bring home what he thinks is right. That is when you paste on this big smile and thank him, later you can show him what you really meant, or you can be a little more specific on the next list. Those men of our have frail egos. :)

    1. From what I hear, most men are the same way when they are sent to the store! I think the best list would just be a map of the store and where the item can be found, and what color it is! haha Thanks for stopping by!

  3. as a guy, I totally agree with the list verifying (I make sure I have IM/text ready to go on my phone when I go grocery shopping), the movie watching, and the wedding planning. For me, the wedding was a mission to accomplish. I enjoyed some of it and was glad to be part of the process but it wasn't the thrilling moments of my year haha. And I said "sure" on many, many things.

    1. Haha, Kevin, glad to have that confirmation. I guess now you get to say, "Mission Accomplished." :P
