Hey Coffee Readers, I have a little surprise for you today!
A few weeks ago, Sue from My-bathrooms blog contacted me about writing a guest post for my blog! I've been wanting to incorporate a few more guest posts here and there and since I just started working full time, the timing of her request couldn't have been more perfect! When discussing ideas for her post, I asked her if she could write up a post on small bathrooms since for many young marrieds like myself that is the type of bathrooms we must deal with! Let's see what tips she has for us!
Hi my name is Sue Jason and I am a
blogger at My-bathrooms blog. I have a passion for sharing ideas
which include home improvement and decor.
Make the Most of Your
Small Bathroom with Storage Ideas
It can be a nightmare trying to fit everything needed in a
bathroom into the smallest room in the home! The solution is to invest in
plenty of storage options, utilizing every small space and finding room in the
most unlikely places.
Go Up the Wall!
Make full use of the bare walls placing hooks, racks, rails
and hoops. These light and non-bulky fittings do not take up very much space
but they provide a surprising amount of useful places to store bathroom
supplies, towels and other odds and ends.
Work with What You Have
Rather than hoping to fit a three-foot shelf into a two-foot
space, choose shelving that will fit into the available space, even if this
means that you have to cut the wood to size yourself. There is almost always
room in any bathroom to squeeze in a small shelf or two or for a corner piece
to be fitted. They may not provide vast expanses of storage room, but a lot of
small shelves will hold a surprising amount.
Floating is the Way
Install floating
cabinets and shelves in order to have plenty of clear floor space for
laundry baskets, free-standing storage and to even create space for baskets and
cabinets underneath. In this way you can create a lot of storage space without
using too much of the bathroom footprint.
Buy Tall
When considering bathroom cupboards and cabinets, always
choose the tallest option available. The tall cupboard from My
bathrooms will fit into your available space and the extra height will
provide a great deal more storage room.
Look for Inspiration
Study your bathroom, looking for free or wasted space. The
window sill is often neglected, but can easily hold spare bathroom products or
provide a home for a delightful plant. Do not forget to look down, as well as
up; there are spaces underneath the basin and under cabinets that can be used
by a wise decorator.
Freestanding Furnishings
While freestanding furniture protrudes into a room a bit
more than a piece fixed firmly to the wall, it is sometimes better to be able
to move the towel rack, vanity or small cupboard around while in the bathroom.
Think about the space needed to use the bathroom comfortably and make sure that
everyone will be able to access all points of the bathroom, before fitting
large bulky cabinets or racks to the wall. You may prefer to have these items
on castors so that each person can easily shunt pieces out of their way when
necessary.
I love the idea of some additional shelving or hooks in our bathroom! Thanks so much for the insightful post, Sue!
Great ideas, thanks! I need to give our little bathroom a practical makeover
ReplyDeleteGirl, you and me both! I realized the other day I wished I could store our bathroom linens actually in the bathroom instead of our closet! Hope Sue gave you some helpful tips! :)
DeleteThanks, this is helpful and inspiring! We have such a small bathroom and I hate it, especially since we can't install anything permanent, and there's no shower curtain rod so the floor is constantly wet. But I look forward to working on it!
ReplyDeleteGlad you feel inspired, Erica! If your German bathroom in anything like the bathrooms I used when in the UK, I know how small it is, and with so little storage space! Maybe some cheap shelving would help, but I also know the urge to keep yourself from accumulating a bunch of stuff when you live in another country...sometimes its tough to balance wanting to buy stuff and telling yourself you don't really need it!
DeleteI always forget to use the wall as space!! Thanks for coming over and sharing at the Happiness is Homemade link party. Hope to see you back on Saturday night!
ReplyDeleteOften, I forget to use that space too...or sometimes just not sure how to utilize it for storage and still look nice. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteGreat ideas and inspiration for our small toilet area in the master bath! Thanks so much for sharing this at the party this week. I am featuring this post on my Facebook page and I have pinned it to the You're Gonna Love It Tuesday board on Pinterest! Have a great weekend :-)
