Have you ever wondered what to do with all your cards that you received at your wedding (or birthday, anniversary, or other important event)? For several months, the cards from our wedding sat around in a box. It made me feel bad, because we just read them once and then there they sad, all sad and confined.
I get the feeling that I initially saw this idea on Pinterest some time ago, so I decided to hole punch all of our cards and bind them together like a book.
This project is really so easy that there is no need for a tutorial, but just in case you're still wondering, here's how I made mine.
Wedding Card Booklet
I used a standard hole punch, twine to bind the cards. You can choose other materials such as ribbon or fabric strips. You can also punch more than two holes, just remember that they will all need to line up (and thus must be evenly spaced).
First, I hole punched all the cards, pressing the bottom of the card to the edge of the hole punch (so they'd be even).
After I punched all the cards, I categorized them by size. I wanted the cards to start with the smallest at the front and largest to the back. I found this to look much more pleasing and easier to look at than if I'd just put them in at any order.
After I got them all in order, I used twine to bind the cards together through the holes. You could use ribbon, fabric strips, or anything that either matches your home decor or wedding style.
Tie a knot to keep the first side together. It is a little harder to bind the second hole.
Once you've gotten your material through both holes, you can bind it however you want.
I tied loose knots around each hole, and looped the twine between the two binding areas to make a handle. If you don't tie the knots loosely, then it will be difficult to open the cards and see inside them.
This was a super simple project, and I love that our wedding cards are organized now! I made two separate stacks, one for the wedding shower cards, and the other for cards from the wedding day.
How have you chosen to organize your wedding cards?
Mine are sad, sad, sad in a box in a box in a box in another country. I don't know when they'll see the light of day again!
ReplyDeleteIs it bad that after I organized them mine are actually back in the same box they were in before? Oh well, at least I'm much more likely to ever get them out and flip through.
DeleteI did the same thing with mine! Much easier to keep and display!
ReplyDeleteIt really is! It was nice to be able to get rid of the envelopes and have them all together.
DeleteI did something similar, I used a metal ring to hold them together and then I used brads to attach a ribbon to the last card, and tied it around the front of the stack of card to keep them tidy!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds cute! I thought about using the little metal rings, but didn't want to go to the store. Hope it stays together with the twine!

My cards are still sitting in a box, and I have no idea what to do with them. I do love this idea, but even so know that if I made it, it would still continue to sit in a box! So we'll see, because I really do want to do something special with them.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great idea! I need to do this with my wedding cards! Thanks for linking up at Romance on a dime!!
ReplyDeleteI did the same thing with my cards! I put my bridal shower/engagement cards in the front and wedding in the back. I used binder clips from Target instead of twine. I definitely like the twine better, though :)
