Wedding Cake, Cupcakes, & Cake Cutting

Today's post is about our wedding cake, cupcakes, and cutting the cake!

We used Christina's Cookies and Cakes out of Sulphur, Oklahoma.  

Christina came to set everything up, and I must say I was amazed by how great it looked and tasted!

Enjoy, and don't lick your computer screen.  It'll give you the wrong impression.

We had a small wedding cake with lots of cupcakes!
We had Lemon, Red Velvet, Cherry Cheesecake and Chocolate with a Strawberry on Top cupcakes!

Thank you Christina's Cookies and Cakes for the delicious cake, cupcakes, and for setting up!  It was all wonderful!

We love the texture Christina put on the cake!  It went great with the succulents and cake toppers!

These little cake toppers have a wonderful little story.  They belonged to my great grandparents, Leona and Kermit.  My grandma told me they were used at Kermit and Leona's wedding. They were married on June 19, 1938.  That means these two figurines were at least 75 years old at the time that they were used again during my wedding.

I made the decorative piece below our cake using wedding pictures or young pictures of our grandparents and parents.  From the outer edges are our grandparents, leading to us in the middle.  We would not be together today if it were not for our families and heritage!

My 'oops,' 'crap,' 'oh no,' and 'oh well' face all rolled into one when I realize that I forgot to tell Tyler that we're supposed to save the top layer for our anniversary.  We just made up for it by eating all the leftover cupcakes on the honeymoon.  :D  Love you anxiously hungry for wedding cake hubby! :)

Arbuckle Mountain Wedding Reception

After walking back down the isle as Mr. and Mrs. Smith, it was reception time for our guests!  

The Food

Since our wedding was in a Lodge, we did everything ourselves - including food and drinks.  We had everything prepared ahead of time, and asked one of my dad's fellow police officers to grill the hamburgers.  We'd asked the other to drive the shuttle for our guests, and of course compensated them for their hard work.  (The other nice thing about this is that we had 3 active police officers at our wedding, just in case anything went wrong...not sure what could go wrong, but anyway!)

Guests lined up at the outdoor tables for a picnic style cook out, getting their hamburger at the end of the line after they prepared the rest of their plate.

We had tables lined up off to the side of the lodge under the trees overlooking one of the ponds.  The weather was pretty nice, the view scenic, and the mood was relaxed!

The groom had the chance to sit and eat dinner with his family...

The Photobooth

We'd asked our house ladies to have the photobooth open for just the first hour after the ceremony.  That way people could take their pictures at the photobooth, then join in the rest of the reception activities without having to keep our house ladies tied to the photobooth for the entire reception.

 I wasn't really hungry right after the ceremony...probably due to being in a tight dress, and the fact that I ate a sandwich right before the ceremony.  Instead of going to eat, I joined family and friends at the photobooth.

My favorite part of this picture is our friend Kevin using a mustache prop upside down as a unibrow. haha

My little cousin and I at the photobooth.  We're trying to raise up more SOONERS in our family, which is why I shoved that OU flag into her hands before we took the pictures.  She can go to whatever school she wants....but maybe? Hopefully?  I know her dad will agree!

 First Dance and Best Man's Speech

After dinner and outdoor fun, we all went inside for the first dance to 'My Girl' by Dave Barnes.

Our best man, Louis gave an excellent speech talking about the friendship he's had with us over our college years, and specifically pointing out characteristic of Tyler that I think everyone in the room could relate to - especially about his servant heart and work ethic.  You can catch a bit of his speech in our wedding recap video.

Next was cutting and eating cake, which has its own post!

After cake, we had planned to dance, but the night just wasn't feeling it.  We spent the rest of the evening chatting with family and friends and eating s'mores.

We stayed until most guests left...which doesn't come with a traditional farewell, but we loved that we could be there until the end and say goodbye to everyone who helped clean up and make the wedding day even possible.

Outdoor/Rustic Wedding Boutineers

We received a lot of comments on the pinecone petal boutineers that I created for the groom, groomsmen, mothers, and grandparents at our wedding.  I thought I'd show you all some detailed shots of them today - as they are one of the parts of our wedding that I am most pleased with the result.

These were thought up one night as I worked like a busy bee on wedding crafts.  I wanted to tie our neutral colors in, give the guys something that wasn't too frilly, and create something unique and special.

The result was the Pinecone Boutineer!

This was supposed to be the groom's pennant, but for some reason he was wearing one of the groomsmen's boutineers on our wedding day.

Too bad the bride isn't always there to supervise him and make sure he knows which boutineer is clearly his. ;)

This boutineer in the top photo was different from the others, as it has an extra layer of petals, ultimately being bigger and more full.  I'm still not really sure what happened to the groom's boutineer, but below is the one he ended up wearing...

This is the boutineer the groom ended up wearing.  These were intended to be the groomsmen and father's boutineers, as they were still made from large pinecones - but had one less layer than the groom's boutineer. 

Here, you can see the handsome groom and groomsmen sporting the boutineers.  I liked how this project turned out because they are still cute, rustic, and went with our lodge decor - but most definitely manly.  Do guys really enjoy wearing delicate flowers that might break, or have to worry about a pin that usually comes out at some point during the wedding?

Mothers and Grandparents received a different boutineer.  The photo below shows my mom and mother-in-law wearing it - it is made from much smaller pinecones and has a pearl center.

Saying 'I Do'

Here is a post all about our wedding ceremony!  I'll just narrate through the pictures, so sit back and enjoy the great work of Birds and Coffee Design's photography!  

Our wedding was at Deer Creek Lodge in Davis, Oklahoma in the lovely Arbuckle mountains in the middle of May.  The lodge had two large ponds with canoes, lots of trees, and on our particular day lots of wind!  

This is the state where the wind come sweeping down the plains.

We had a very traditional ceremony, led by my grandpa.  After the processionals, we heard a brief message about God's plan for marriage, said the traditional vows, were pronounced, kissed, and walked away married! 

When I say traditional vows, I mean they even had the 'thees' and 'thous' and don't tell me that's not a tongue twister!  We worked hard to say those vows!

My walk down the isle started at the back door of the lodge.  The beginning of "Carl Goes Up" set the scene, and my dad and I walked to the climax of the song.  (My dad is wearing a police dress uniform).

Last, but definitely not least, we asked our friend Kevin to video our wedding for us.  He seriously went ABOVE AND BEYOND and we are super impressed!  He even went so far as to match the songs to the correct parts of the ceremony so that the sound quality would be full.  Seriously.
