Sometime in the past week or two, we made a BIG mistake.
Here's the back story: Tyler and I talked about chores before we got married and half way divvied them up according to what each one of us likes to do. We decided that Tyler's jobs were doing laundry and vacuuming, and that my jobs were dishes and cleaning bathrooms. Since we talked about that, his schedule has been significantly more busy than mine since I am still looking for a job, so I do what I can to pick up on most of the household chores.
Now, Tyler mainly just does laundry (because I really hate folding clothes), picks up dead spiders, grills if we grill, and I do the other stuff. As per Tyler's decision, Sundays are laundry day. Most of the time this works out pretty well, and most of the laundry is done by Monday morning.
But a few weeks ago we had a busy Sunday, so that left us splitting up the laundry duties, which left one of us forgetting about some laundry in the washer. I'm not really sure who it was, but I'll just assume it was me since I was probably home and I remember putting some wet clothes in the dryer a few times in the past couple weeks.
Let me just say, I don't remember smelling anything bad when I put any loads into the dryer, nor when I hung and folded any clothes...but PHEW! We noticed this week that all our grey and white clothes stink to high heaven! The smell seems to also come in waves. I put a shirt on and didn't smell anything for the majority of the day, but later I thought there was a weird smell coming from somewhere. Then Tyler hugged me and smelled that it was my shirt! Other times you know before you put the shirt on that it is one of the smelly ones!
If you were to come over a few days ago, you would have found me going through the closet sniffing all the grey clothes, and then sniffing the clothes on either side of it (because trust me, that smell spread) so that we could rewash everything!
Let's just say I'm hoping this is one mistake we never make again!
Oh no! My family has had that happen before! Malaysia is so humid and warm, you don't want to leave wet clothes around for any length of time! That's a powerful smell!
ReplyDeleteSo much worse in humid areas I'm sure! In China I didn't have a dryer there, and there were a few cold rainy weeks where the clothes never dried by hanging after being washed and they started to have the same smell! I'm so glad to have a dryer here...at least we can rewash things and dry them immediately!
Deletehaha oh my yes...kevin forgets laundry and tries to just dry it, no it must be washed again!
ReplyDeleteHaha, does he realize they smell when he tries to dry them?
DeleteYou gotta love couple laundry stories!
ReplyDeleteBefore we were married, my husband offered to take the laundry to the laundromat and do the washing. Awesome! After he loaded the machine he went to have coffee with a friend (next to the laundromat). After the coffee he came home....no laundry! When we went back the laundry was all gone - my favourite jeans included!
Oh no!! That's awful! I've heard of people stealing laundry...but I just don't understand it! If they want to be thieves I don't understand why laundry would be the product of choice! Sorry that happened to you! (Favorite jeans are so hard to find too!)
DeleteAh that's SO easy to do, and the consequences are horrible, ugh, that smell....
ReplyDeleteAhh...yes, the consequences really outweigh just moving the laundry into the dryer when the buzzer goes off.
DeleteOh no I did that! I fell asleep after putting wash in the machine, it finished and I was knocked out. Woke up, still didn't hang it up, and when I got home there was a foul smell on them. So I had to re-wash everything. blah!
ReplyDeleteI always hate rewashing things, but it is worth not having that smell! haha
DeleteUgh, I do that all the time! Mostly because laundry is my responsibility, and I am lazy with it!
ReplyDeleteIf laundry was my responsibility all the time, this would probably happen at least once a week. haha
